The beginning of oil dispersion bath therapy was the 1937 presentation of a thirty-year-old female patient who was critically ill with cervicofacial actinomycosis. She had been discharged from inpatient surgical treatment because she refused further surgical intervention. She had finished with life. In his search for therapeutic possibilities, Werner Junge found a statement by Rudolf Steiner[5] on the use of finely atomized oils in the bath. In the hope of strengthening the ego of the patient in apathy, oil baths were carried out. The patient gained new courage to face life and after a few weeks of continued baths, there was also a complete healing of the physical illness.[6]

Werner Junge initially conceived the oil dispersion bath as a resting bath. Under the impression of insufficient oil absorption, he started a brush massage of the skin after about 5 min of rest. He derived this procedure from his knowledge of classical massage and rhythmic massage according to Wegman/Hauschka.[8]
