Werner Junge was born on Palm Sunday, March 31, 1912 in Berlin, the son of Emma and Paul Junge. In 1916 his father was killed in Russia. After a physical breakdown of his mother, he grows up for two years with relatives. After completing elementary school, he begins an apprenticeship as a machinist at AEG in Berlin in 1926, which he finishes early and with honors in the journeyman's examination because of his very good performance.
