Beyond Reductionism - New perspectives in the life sciences was an international symposium initiated by Arthur Koestler and held in Alpbach in 1968 as part of the European Forum Alpbach series. Koestler, together with J. R. Smythies, edited the lectures and the ensuing discussions under the title of the symposium. The publication was in several languages, including a German translation entitled "Das neue Menschenbild - Die Revolutionierung der Wissenschaften vom Leben" in translation by Franz Vesely. It was financed by three publishers (Hutchinsons, London; Macmillan, New York and Verlag Fritz Molden, Vienna-Munich-Zurich).
