The Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine is a U.S.-based organization that promotes holistic integrative medicine. Its goal is to incorporate traditional, complementary, and integrative medical approaches into the health care system.[1]
History
It went through some renamings and changes from the American Holistic Medical Association (AHMA) organization founded in 1978. Those involved at that time included C.Norman Shealy, Gladys Taylor McGarey, Bill McGarey, Gerald Looney, and Evarts Loomis.[2] In 1980 founding of the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) took place inspired by AHMA.[2] In 2013, leaders from AHMA and American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine (ABIHM) came together with other leaders in integrative health to form the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine (AIHM).[2]
