The Integrated Curriculum for Anthroposophic Medicine (ICURAM) at Witten/Herdecke University is a curricular training in anthroposophic medicine accompanying the regular university medical curriculum.[1][2] The German designation is Integriertes Begleitstudium Anthroposophische Medizin (IBAM). The IBAP also offers a similar program for psychology studies. The training is supported by the Association "Verein zur Förderung von Lehre und Forschung in der Anthroposophischen Medizin".

Concept

The duration is six years according to the regular medical curriculum. The structure follows the three sections of the reform study program of basic studies (semesters 1-4), clinic (semesters 5-10) and practical year (semesters 11-12). The conception of the IBAM is based on Rudolf Steiner's suggestions for the design and further development of medical studies. "In the comprehensive sense [...] the study of nature, the human being and the disease are studied. Suggestions for the training of perception, thinking, feeling and willing in a medical orientation are just as important as the development of therapeutic skills and a medical attitude. Throughout all phases of study, there is an engagement with various art, movement and manual therapies. The joint organization of the studies in the ICURAM by lecturers and students is a core concern, as is the offer of reflexive accompaniment of one's own professional development path. It finds expression, for example, in the Curriculum Committee, plenary meetings, feedbacks and development discussions."[3]

History

The IBAM/ICURAM started in the winter semester 2003/04 with pilot courses. In April 2004, the first students began comprehensive training in anthroposophic medicine that accompanied their entire studies.
