SEKEM Medical center is providing integrative and anthroposophic medical care. It is located in Bilbeis near Cairo, Egypt in the context of SEKEM. The SEKEM Medical Center is providing both services to SEKEM employees, students and surrounding 40.000 community members.[1] It was founded in 1995.[2]
The Medical Center Comprises the Following Health Services: General practitioner and Family Physician, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Dentistry, Ear, Nose and Throat, Minor and General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology.[1] There is a focus on hepatitis C.[3]
SEKEM "wants to develop a concept for integrative healthcare that supports the well-being of the individual in its wholeness and promotes it through prevention. In this way SEKEM wants to contribute to a sustainable improvement of the desolate health care system and the high incidence of illness in Egypt."[4]
"Education and health awareness programs for patients are designed to meet the needs of the local community. People are told about sanitation and hygiene, provided with information on health, nutrition, disease prevention and environmental issues, and are encouraged to use the services of the Medical Center for preventive and curative treatments."[2] The Health on Wheels program aims to provide integral healthcare in Egypt to the surroundings of SEKEM.[5]
Since 2016 the medical center is climatized with the help of a solarthermic plant engineered as a research project by the Heliopolis University.[6]
History
